The survey

Objectives of the European online survey

The objective of the survey was to analyse the importance the place of the University-Enterprise cooperation in European education & training initiatives. More specifically, it aimed at analysing how universities have integrated the University-Enterprise dimension in their activities. In that context a specific survey was proposed to contribute to:

  • characterize the different models of cooperation identified
  • collect elements of the current trends regarding how University-Enterprise cooperation takes place from both actor’s perspectives
  • collect elements on future challenges and new expectations which have to be met in the light of the Lisbon agenda and the Bologna process

Target group of the survey

Three main types of actors were contacted:

a selection of European cooperation projects with an important University-Enterprise dimension in their activities (mainly Socrates and Leonardo projects)

a sample of around 200 universities which are quite active regarding the development of University-Enterprise cooperation strategies.

a limited number of specific actors which have been involved in the field of University–Enterprise cooperation in education and training (mainly former University-Enterprise Training Partnerships (UETPS) created under the COMETT programme which are still active today).

Questionnaire

This questionnaire underlying this online survey reaching out to around 400 institutions all over Europe was aimed at identifying good practice examples, critical success factors as well as obstacles in University-Enterprise cooperation (for more information see questionnaire).

Results

The statistical results of this “snapshot study” can be downloaded here (*pdf).

The results of the survey were presented at a European conference which took place in Bonn on June18- 19, 2007. A conference draft report was produced which highlighted some quantitative and the qualitative findings of the survey.
